Crests

From Rejuvenation Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

Crests are held items unique to Pokémon Rejuvenation. Similarly to canonical held items like Light Ball or Thick Club, they are specific to one species of Pokémon and confer strong boosts to the Pokémon holding its corresponding Crest.

Mechanics

Battle UI with an Active Crest (bottom) vs no Crest (top)

Crest have a wide variety of effects, ranging from simple stat boosts, over granting additional abilities, up to having completely custom effects.

An active Crest (a Crest held by a Pokémon that it is meant for) can't be removed from their owner during battle. Trick and similar moves will fail, Knock Off will still do damage but won't remove the Crest.

A Pokémon holding their corresponding Crest will have an UI icon during battle alerting the player to the Crest's presence.

Crests that swap the stats of the user (for example the Magcargo Crest) swap the fully calculated stat after application of IVs, EVs and Nature, as an example, in the case of Magcargo the Defense and Speed stats are swapped, this results in EVs invested in Defense being effectively Speed EVs, and the other way around. In battle stat boosts will not be swapped accordingly, so to continue the example, a crested Magcargo using Harden will still boost it's defense.

Background

Most Crests were created long ago using ancient Garufan magic. These rituals usually required Pokémon or human sacrifices. These two facts go a long way to explain the rarity of Crests, although it should be noted that Crests for more modern Pokémon (e.g. Castform) seemingly don't require these rituals: for example, the Castform Crest is created by a Ranger in Terajuma Jungle simply by giving him the TMs for Hail, Sunny Day and Rain Dance.

Trivia

  • Crests usually are given to weaker Pokémon, so that they may be viable even in the late game.
  • If one Pokémon of a distinct group (starter trios, version counterparts etc.) receives a crest, the other Pokémon of that group generally also receive one, resulting in some already "strong" Pokémon receiving crests, such as Empoleon and Infernape. However, as of the current version of the game, the only exception is Samurott, which received a Crest while Serperior and Emboar still currently lack one.
  • Silvally's Crest is the only Crest that works without being held, granting its effects as long as it is present in the bag. It is the only one that has different effects depending on which Memory (if any) Silvally is currently holding.
  • As of v13.5, the Silvally and Beheeyem crests are the only crests that are implemented but not available to the player, though Beheeyem's crest was available in the Zorrialyn labyrinth in earlier versions.
  • Crests check for the current species of the holder, as such a Transform User holding a Crest, will receive the Crest's effects if it transforms into the Pokémon whose crest it is holding (e.g. if a Ditto with the Typhlosion Crest transforms into Typhlosion, it will reap the effects of the Crest). The reverse also happens: a Pokémon holding its appropriate Crest will lose the Crest effect if it transforms into a different Pokemon (e.g. Transform Leafeon holding the Leafeon Crest will lose the Leafeon Crest's effects if it transforms into a different Pokémon).
