Rejuvenation PetrificationStatus1.jpg

Petrification is a status condition that causes the Pokémon to have its HP drained each turn. This is indicated by the FNT status that is often used for fainted Pokémon, despite the Pokémon's HP not being at 0.

Effect

Torterra with FNT status, indicating that it is petrified.

Petrification causes the Pokémon to have 1/8 of its max HP drained after the target takes its turn, and the same amount of HP will be restored to the target's opponent. Recurrent Petrification draining will not occur if the petrified Pokémon defeats the target. Unlike other types of damage, the recurrent damage done by Petrification status can exceed the target's current HP.

A petrified Pokémon with Magic Guard will not take any drain damage. Additionally, a petrified Pokémon with Wonder Guard will not take any drain damage only if Colosseum Field is active.

If the user has a Big Root as its held item, it will recover 30% more HP than it normally would. Big Root does not increase damage dealt. All other effects remain the same.

In Wasteland terrain, the amount of HP drained by the effects of Petrification becomes doubled, but will not increase damage dealt.

The ability Liquid Ooze has no effect on the HP drained from Petrification.

The ability Synchronize can inflict Petrification status, provided the target can be petrified.

Petrification will fail to inflict under any of the following conditions:

  • The target is Rock-type.
  • The target is already petrified.
  • The target has Substitute active.
  • The target is already inflicted with a status condition.
  • The target has the Comatose ability.
  • The target has Safeguard active.
  • Misty Terrain is active.
  • The target is holding an Amulet Coin while on Dragon's Den field.
  • The target used Obstruct while on Dimensional Field.

Cause

Prior to v13.5, the only method of inflicting Petrification is from Decimation. Currently, Decimation is exclusive to Madame X's Yveltal and cannot be taught through normal means.

In v13.5, Petrification can also be afflicted via usage of the Z-Move Chthonic Malady, which is only accessible to the Protagonist (on Renegade Route only), and Crescent (regardless of route).
