Magma Drift is an offensive Fire-type move. It can also be used outside of battle to cross lava.

Effect

In Battle

Magma Drift inflicts damage and can hit a Pokémon during the semi-invulnerable turn of Dive, and if it does, it will have its power doubled for that Pokémon. Upon execution, Magma Drift will thaw the user if frozen (even if the move fails to hit the target).

Magma Drift hits all adjacent Pokémon in a Double Battle.

Field Interactions

Magma Drift changes the Cave, Crystal Cavern and Dark Crystal Cavern fields to the Volcanic Field when used.
It also melts the Icy Field to Water Surface field (this effect also can happen outside of battle in the Evergreen Cave), and it changes the Mountain and Snowy Mountain fields to the Volcanic Top Field.
Magma Drift is boosted by 50% on the Dragon's Den field. It is boosted by 30% and causes a eruption on the Volcanic Top Field.

Outside of Battle

Magma Drift can be used outside of battle to travel across lava.
This requires the player to own 7 Badges, as well as either a Pokémon knowing Magma Drift in the Party or the Golden Drift Board and the TM for Magma Drift in the bag.

This is a keypoint of progression during the game's story, but is generally only used in volcanic areas, like Carotos Mountain and Valor Mountain.
