Kreiss

Jump to navigation Jump to search

Kreiss is Aevium's Ice Gym leader. He's originally from Neverwinter and he visited Terajuma Island to investigate a rumor about someone impersonating him, but ended up being trapped by Angie in the Tower of Theolia while investigating Kristiline Town.

Appearance

Kreiss is a man who is older than his appearance might suggest. He has sharp blue eyes and a defined jawline, and wears a pair of glasses. He has long, light blue hair with even lighter blue streaks and highlights that is tied into a ponytail with a dark blue ribbon keeping it together. He wears a long, dark navy blue coat with golden buttons while at Terajuma. Underneath the coat he wears a blue and white waistcoat with gold buttons, and has a piece of gold jewelry with a snowflake detail clipped to one of its lapels. Under the vest he wears a light blue shirt with rolled up sleeves, as well as a navy blue tie. On his right wrist he wears a navy blue wristband made out of the same material used for his hairtie. He wears a pair of plain white jeans, as well as a pair of dark blue boots with light blue details and rim that reach up to halfway his shins.

Personality

Kreiss is a stoic man that's pragmatic to a fault with a rather old fashioned and slightly sarcastic way of speaking. While he is quick in his thinking and approaches problems in an often practical way, he has a somewhat violent streak and often reaches the conclusion that problems can be solved with his fists—something that's on full blast when he nearly punches Tommen into a campfire while at the Garufa Sanctuary to confirm whether he's a real person or not. To add to this, according to Martin, Kreiss is prone to getting himself into trouble in part due to this behavior, but also due to having a strong sense of justice and sometimes underestimating just how much trouble he's getting himself into, proven by him jumping into action as soon as he heard about that someone was impersonating him at Kristiline Town. Despite this, he's quite knowledgeable on a variety of subjects

Despite having the outward appearance of a well-kept gentleman and having good intentions overall, Kreiss isn't that socially adept and his sense of humor tends to fall flat with most people. It's especially noticeable when talking to people significantly younger than him and occasionally fumbles his words as a result, coming across as more harsh than he intends. However, he does have a softer side to him as shown when talking to Martin on the phone when apologizing for not letting him know what was going on during his absence, as well as his apparent willingness to help Aelita with her journey to visit the three different springs across Aevium by providing her with two crests and Martin's Mega Audino.

Kreiss seems to have a dislike for loud dance music, as shown when going to Sheridan Village alongside Aelita and The Eldest and visiting Texen's house while trying to get access to Carotos Mountain, as well as during the party Amber throws at Club S.T.F.U.. He's also not fond of using his mobile phone.

Biography

Kreiss imprisoned in the Tower of Theolia.

In Chapter 7, while exploring the Tower of Theolia, the Protagonist, Venam and Crawli eventually stumble upon Kreiss, who appears to be trapped within an ice prison. He introduces himself to the group and explains that he went to Kristiline Town investigating a rumor about someone impersonating him. Not knowing that what he thought would be a situation to "settle man to man" would end up being "man to woman" instead, he eventually ended up trapped by Angie and has been locked up since. After freeing him, he joins the group while traversing upwards through the tower, eventually assisting in the final battle against Angie and dealing the final blow to her, freezing her in ice with an Ice Beam from his Froslass. After the group escapes the tower and the Protagonist wakes up after healing from their injuries thanks to Tapu Lele, he gives the Glacier Badge to the Protagonist as a thanks for their help, saying he underestimated just how much work they'd end up putting into saving both him and Kristiline, following it up with that if the Protagonist wants to make a fuss about not giving him a fair fight for the badge, they'll just have to visit him at Neverwinter instead.

During Chapter 8, if the Protagonist freed Kreiss from his prison, he will be one of the three available options for the Protagonist and Aelita to take along to Sheridan Village after learning from Reina that Cera is plotting to thaw out Angie using the Earth Heart, an object located deep within Carotos Mountain. Upon arriving at what is now Texen's house, Amanda doesn't recognize him and calls him an old man, much to his annoyance, and responds that because she forgot about him he'll do his best to forget about her as well. After entering Texen's house, he'll wait at the entrance until Aelita and the Protagonist have settled business with Texen, noting that he'll stare at all the youth in the room judgingly all the while.

After Texen has been defeated and upon entering the Corrupted Cave, he'll loudly exclaim about the smell being pungent and asks if they really need to delve any deeper into the place. Regardless, the group presses on and eventually stumble upon Cera and her lackeys. After defeating one of them in battle, Aelita storms off in pursuit of Cera, of which Kreiss notes that she has too much fire while the servants are far too cold in comparison, noting it to be a true tale of fire and ice.

Upon entering the Garufa Sanctuary, the Eldest finally catches up to the group who insists she joins them rather than having to suffer the noise Texen's constant partying produces. While Kreiss initially voices his worry about an old woman joining them into a potentially dangerous situation, he relents after she convinces him that she's stronger than she looks. While investigating the ruins, Kreiss' knowledge on a variety of subjects becomes apparent as he concludes that the projections stopping them from advancing are seals—a bit of knowledge he picked up thanks to Martin's unfortunate habit of frequently watching documentaries on the occult, as well as knowing how to read braille, something that comes in handy in order to decipher what needs to be done to open the first door that leads deeper into the sanctuary. After several puzzles, the group encounters a Team Xen grunt named Tommen, who after a brief moment of consideration promptly gets punched by Kreiss in order to confirm if he's real or not. He and Aelita then ask him if he knows how to undo the big seal that blocks the way towards where Cera and her lackeys are headed. Tommen explains it, to which Kreiss says that he should stand on one of the two platforms as a test of trustworthiness, to which Tommen agrees. He then turns to the Protagonist, saying he'll keep watch over Tommen to make sure that he doesn't pull a fast one on the group and cause any problems.

Once Cera and Groudon are defeated and the Protagonist and the Eldest return to where Aelita was standing on the platform, Kreiss will rush into the room upon hearing the Eldest's yelling, initially complaining about the noise but quickly switching his tone to a more concerned one upon seeing Aelita. He'll note that her heartbeat is far too slow and has entered a state similar to being comatose. When Tommen enters the room and sees what has happened to Aelita then tries to escape the room, Kreiss quickly prompts the Protagonist to chase after him alongside him, saying he'll likely be trying to make his way out of the mountain. Not willing to listen to what Tommen has to say upon confronting him outside of the sanctuary, Kreiss threatens him with the consequences for Aelita getting hurt, but is left dumbfounded when Tommen disintegrates right before his eyes. After some brief pondering about what happened, he and the Protagonist return to the Eldest and Aelita. Upon returning, he insists that they carry Aelita out of the ruins to above ground.

Once back in Sheridan Village, Kreiss says they've done what they can for Aelita, noting that her ailment is supernatural and that natural remedies don't have any effect on her. He further note that they have access to the Ocean Relic now, the last one they'll need in order to get access to Valor Mountain, and that war will surge through Terajuma soon, musing that Aelita won't see a second of it—for better or for worse. If the Protagonist has a decent amount of friendship points with Aelita, Kreiss will mention that he understands that the Protagonist and Aelita are close and that he can only imagine how they must be feeling right now. He also apologizes for not doing more in order to prevent this from happening, saying that he should've been more concerned with Aelita's safety and that he sometimes has trouble with those kinds of things.

During the Xen raid on Terajuma, Kreiss is seen defending Kristiline Town, throwing a pointed remark towards Aquis that he's not contributing much to the battle at hand for how much he's yelling about defending the Princess. Once Team Xen has been defeated, Kreiss will visit Club S.T.F.U., musing how he'll head back to Neverwinter after this as a phone call with Martin had the latter shouting at him out of worry, but not before toasting the Protagonist on a job well done in fending off Team Xen. An extra scene actually shows this phone call, in which Kreiss calls back to his home, only for it to be picked up by a very frantic Martin. After Kreiss explains what happened during his stay on Terajuma, he notes that he's not quite sure why Angie kept him alive and even had her servants provide him with meals during his imprisonment. However, he immediately follows it up with that he doesn't really care to know either and leaves it at that. He apologizes to Martin for leaving him in the dark about his well-being and says he'll be heading home soon.

Kreiss as a baby visited by the Protectors of Aevium.

In Chapter 15 it is revealed through a series of flashbacks from Kanon that Kreiss is the son of Anju, the flashbacks taking place when Kreiss was only one year old. Despite Anju's warnings towards Hazuki to not shake him too much, Hazuki does so anyways, resulting in Kreiss throwing up over her armor and Anju regrettably noting that Kreiss gets motion sick easily. During the Regice sidequest, it is revealed that Kreiss' father died young, and Anju froze Kreiss in her Never-Melt Ice in order to keep him safe until she can free both him and her parents from her ice once it's safe to do so, but also mentions that in the case she doesn't survive that the ice will thaw eventually on its own. However, shortly after Anju leaves, Tiempa and Spacea show up, safely freeing Kreiss from the ice and taking him to Galar 15 years into the past, far away and far before Storm 9 ever takes place.

End of spoilers! Thank you for your patience.

Relationships

Martin

Martin is Kreiss' husband and is subsequently someone who he deeply cares and would do a lot for, but often makes worry due to his habit of getting into trouble. He shows a much softer side to him when he's talking to him, something that's notably different from how he speaks to anyone else. Kreiss often refers to him in conversation, such as mentioning that Martin has noted that his sense of humor isn't exactly accessible to a lot of people, but also on occasions where he wonders what Martin would've done in a situation or mentioning Martin's habit of watching occult documentaries over and over. Despite not enjoying using his phone much, he says he'll go out of his way to use it more if it means that Martin will stop fussing over his well being while he's on more distant business.

Quotes

  • "Well met! Now that I'm free, I'll be taking your lives now." (Chapter 7, a failed attempt at a joke after being freed from his prison.)
  • "I've learned this through my partner. He fancies himself with the occult and such. Watching the same documentaries over and over... Those blasted videos..." (Chapter 8, talking about the seals in the Garufa Sanctuary.)
  • "Good news and bad news. He's not a hallucination. Bad news, he's real." (Chapter 8, referring to Tommen after punching him)
  • "Sigh... (Name) and the others... If I die here I'm going to haunt you and your bank accounts." (Chapter 8, during the Xen raid on Terajuma)

Trivia

  • Kreiss has an official Twitter account. The only other character to have one as well is Saki.
    • According to said twitter, next to his job as a Gym leader he also runs a book publishing company.
  • He has a terrible case of motion sickness (something that he was noted by Anju to have even as an infant), to the point that the only method of transport that isn't by foot he can use without problems is a boat. He sometimes has Martin give him a lift on his snowmobile, but it always ends up with Kreiss feeling ill afterwards.
    • To corroborate this, the only method of transport he personally owns is actually a boat.
  • Kreiss has an absurdly high tolerance for the cold, to the point it almost seems like his perception of temperatures is inverted as he tells Crawli and Venam that he thinks that the prison he's being held in is quite hot.
  • According to Amanda, Kreiss and Martin met during a painting class at Avorcrysta Village, but notes this is only a rumor and might not be true.
