Keta is Sheridan Village's sensei, Aelita's adoptive father, and the Fighting type gym leader. He's emotionally distant, and requests the Protagonist to find the Soul Stone in order to help him with something.
Keta has dark hair and dark, tired eyes. He wears a striped purple jacket, white pants and black boots. His many wrinkles also give him an aged look.
Although it wears the same clothes, Keta's spirit in Amethyst Grotto has a softer expression, even smiling on its sprites.
Personality
Upon his introduction, Keta comes off as quite cold and detached, even getting annoyed at Aelita for bringing the Protagonist into his house. The following conversation shows his resignation towards his and Sheridan Village's situation, but, as he remembers something from his past, he decides to give the Protagonist one chance, showing he hasn't completely given up yet. However, his pessimism and resignation towards the events in Amethyst Cave and the village are still present.
After his defeat at the hands of the player, Keta seemingly changes his mind and finally attempts to remedy the problem that has been tormenting him, abandoning his pessimism and becoming much more proactive.
Biography
When the player first meets Keta, they find that the Sensei of Sheridan Village has been holed up in his house for quite a long time already, worrying Aelita and the rest of the inhabitants, who always looked up to him as an active member of the community. At Aelita's suggestion, her and the player attempt to meet with Keta, who, after being asked by Aelita to let give them one more chance and remembering something important from his past, finally concedes and offers the player a test: if they can access the hidden Amethyst Grotto and retrieve the Soul Stone, he will give the village another opportunity.
After the player succeeds in meeting Keta's emotions, locked inside the Grotto, and retrieve the Soul Stone, a shocked Keta lets the protagonist know they passed his test, and to meet him at the Arena, back at the village. There, Keta challenges the protagonist to a battle and, to his surprise, everyone in Sheridan Village comes to watch him. After being defeated, Keta regrets having failed everyone again, but, to his even bigger surprise, everyone still loves and respects him, applauding and cheering him up. This prompts Keta to remember something else from his past, and to decide to finally decide to protect the village and its inhabitants. He runs under the waterfall under the arena, but is immediately followed by Aelita and the protagonist, who find out that the inside of the mountain is actually a secret Team Xen base focused on Shadow Pokémon research, called Madelis' Palace. After Aelita is captured, Keta joins with the protagonist and they make their way to the room where Madelis is waiting for them, revealing the truth that Keta was actually operating under Team Xen's control, as not only did he know about the facility, but he also knew that, once the research was finished, the mountain would explode, destroying Sheridan Village. It is also revealed to Aelita that Keta is her father.
Now decided to make things right, Keta and the protagonist engage Madelis and her Shadow Mewtwo, but are pushed back. Keta tries to sacrifice himself to let Aelita and the protagonist escape, but, before they can decide, Crescent shows up and has her Gothithelle teleport them both away. Once they make it back, they find Keta knocked out, with Madelis ready to deal the finishing blow. Crescent removes the Mewtwo's armor, and as Keta tries to prevent Mewtwo from attacking, he states how much he regrets everything that has happened and apologizes to Aelita, before asking Crescent to teleport the other two away to safety, to which she begrudgingly agrees. She then also takes her leave, leaving Keta to presumably die by Mewtwo's attack.
In older versions, Keta's fight in the Amethyst Grotto used to happen much earlier in the story, serving as the final battle before obtaining the second badge. On Casual Mode, he had a Larvesta instead of a Krookodile. On Normal mode, he had a Larvesta instead of an Espeon and both his Krookodile and his Roserade were unevolved.
